WHAT IS YOUR EXPECTATION FROM THE ACTION CONGRESS OF NIGERIA?

On Saturday 3rd of March 2012, the city of Ileoluji was adorned with the Action Congress of Nigeria, A C N colour and souvenirs as the new entrants were welcome in grand style. Peoples’ court spoke with some of the Party leaders and the new entrants into the Party on their expectation from the Party.

Chief Olusola  Adesoji

I am very happy to see people trooping out en-mass to join Action Congress of Nigeria. This is a living testimony to the fact that the party is growing and in a geometric manner, it is expanding in the state.  By the special grace of God, the gubernatorial election coming up later in the year, the Action Congress of Nigeria is going to win. The way you have seen people coming out now in Ileoluji/ Okeigbo local government area, the same way they will enthusiastically troop out during the next election to sweep out the present administration due to what I call pseudo performance. I will as well use this opportunity to encourage those that are yet to join this great move to respond to the clarion call of making Ondo state truly a great state

.
Hon. Kisun Akinro

As a former chairman of Ileoluji Okeigbo local government area, I am very close to my people and my people are very close to me. At every time, I measure their impulse and I know what they want at every given time. When I was in the office, I modestly strive to build what could be referred to as a legacy of good local government administration should be contrary to what we are having now.
By the special grace of God, with the invasion of the Action Congress of Nigeria into the local government, I can assure the people that they will once again be given the real dividends of democracy and they will enjoy good governance. Governance is about the economy of the people and not cosmetic placation. We shall focus on the well being of the people because every development revolves round the people.

Dr. Banji Opeke

With what is happening today, which I believe you are a living witness, the expectation of the people of Ile-Oluji/ Okeigbo local government area is already fulfilled. The real Party which is the Action Congress of Nigeria, A C N has finally taken over Ondo state.  I say this with all sense of modesty that we are happy that the state is bouncing back from the devastation it has been subjected to by the present administration led by Labour Party. I am particularly happy and fulfilled because  as a state, we are going back to our original place where we belong and I congratulate the people of the state for their heroic stand for the Action Congress of Nigeria.

Wale Akinterinwa

I belong to the class of the progressives and if you will recall, I was a former commissioner under the administration of Dr. Rahaman Mimiko but I thank God that history has vindicated the decision I took some years back when I resigned my appointment. On the issue of status of the Action Congress of Nigeria , A C N in Ondo State, you can see that the state is already caught up with the wind of change that is blowing across southwest and beyond. By culture, values and orientation the people of the southwest are progressives and that explains why we cannot as a state stand in isolation and we have no choice than to go back to where we belong and what you are seeing today is a living testimony that Ondo state is set to re-join the progressives which is represented by Action Congress of Nigeria. Our people should therefore keep hope alive as there is light around the tunnel.

Abiodun Ige

I am joining Action Congress of Nigeria today because of the light that I have seen in the party. I thank God that from today I am leaving the darkness of Labor Party. We have been largely deceived by the governor. He kept enriching his family and in-laws at the expense of the party members. If making sacrifice for the state is his motive why did he take N650 million as his security vote?  The benefit or dividends of democracy which should be the benefit of everyone in the state has been made to be a right to the few individuals in the party.
It is aregret for everyone in Ondo state today that the like of Mimiko could be the governor of the state as we have lost a lot to profligacy. But I can authoritatively tell you that Ondo state people are wise now and we are taking our destiny into our hands by joining the Action Congress of Nigeria. We are happier in this local government now because our hope will be restored through A C N.

Iyabode Fagbeyisan.

What you are seeing in ile-Oluji /Okeigbo local government area today is a reflection of our home work and we are not yet satisfied until our better become the best. The Action Congress in this local government area has a high expectation of getting a good government that will at all time defend and protect the interest of the people and that is what we are out for.
I equally want to use this opportunity to encourage the people of the state to be courageous by joining the progressive party which is A C N. With A C N in Ondo state, the sky is the beginning.

Hon Lawrence Adenugba

I am delighted and feel elated by the response of the people of Ileoluji and Okeigbo  to the whistle of change that we progressive leaders of the local government is blowing.
For years, I have traveled round the developed countries of the world and it has been my yearnings to see and belong to a platform that can replicate the development in the developed world in our local government and state.
With the way Action Congress of Nigeria is being positioned in the state using Ileoluji as a case study, I am convinced that the desired change that we want is on the way.
Also, I must say without sentiment as a son of Ileoluji that the time has come for the city to become a local government and in my life time it will.
I am happy also that we as a state and local government have re-united with our original Party which is the party with the ideology of Awolowo. So, there is cause for everyone to be happy it is a new dawn.

THREE YEARS IN OFFICE, HAS THE GOVERNOR WORKED FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE?
By February 24th 2012 the administration of Dr. Mimiko will be three years. The people’s Court talked to people across the eighteen local government areas in the state to find out whether the governor is working in line with their expectations or not three years of Mimiko in office.

Mr Fred Adegoriola
Well, he has tried his best. Though there are some of his projects that are condemnable but in all he has tried his best like every other persons we have had in the position.

Mrs Sola Adefolami
He tried but should allow another person to come there.

Wale Williams

As an adult, it is embarrassing that any journalist could be asking me how my kinsman Dr. Mimiko has managed the affairs of the state for the past three years. My thought is that every journalist should be kept abreast of the situations in Ondo town and its suburbs being the place of origin of Mr. Governor. Anyway to answer your question, there is nothing to show that a son of Ekimogun origin is the governor of Ondo state except the utopian and unrealistic dualization of road. Go to Yaba, Ife garage etc pot holes are all over the places. There is increase in poverty level of the people. It is quite disheartening that somebody like Mimiko who accused his predecessor of non-performance is even worse in performances. Mimiko by assessment of his three years in office cannot be scored more than 15%. He has failed woefully.

Jayeoba Oluwatuyi.

The major regret of my life was when I created passion and sympathy for Labour Party in 2007. My major aim then was that Dr. Mimiko will deliver but now to the best of my assessment, Mimiko administration is a symbol of deceit. Base on his three years in office it is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that Mimiko has done nothing but he has showcase and express his act of embezzlement and failure. Above all, I pity the future of this state if we still have such killing ghost in our state.

Iroju Santos.

My local government has nothing to show for the three years Mimiko has spent in office. Despite the huge resources at his disposal, all that we can see is cosmetic development and populist programs. By populist program, a government will concentrate on areas where people can easily see him doing something and this explains why he has spent the whole of three years dressing Oba-Adesida road in Akure. In my local government, all the projects inherited by the government have been abandoned and nothing serious is going on. With this display of Mimiko in the last three years he does not deserve second term

.
Adeleye Rotimi.

The three years administration of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko is a failure because he made promises that he failed to fulfill. He once said that there is room enough for all and that nobody goes to bed with hunger in the state. He equally promised he will know everybody by name.  But today, he has only concentrated on beautification without economic benefit. His family members are the major beneficiaries of this government. His younger brother is the vice chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko, his other siblings are getting the fattest meat in the government. Considering the projects he is executing in the state, he is just wasting our money. The N350 million each he is wasting on Mega School can be used to rehabilitate over hundreds of schools. In summary, he is a failure.

Omolere Samuel Gbenga.

Mimiko three years in office is a failure and disappointment because he refused to meet up his electioneering promises.
He promised maximum development of human and natural resources in the state but all we can see now is building of market and a lot of uncompleted projects. My conclusion about Mimiko government is that it is a 419 one because he made unfulfilled promise at all time.

Ajayi O.

The basic assessment that can be used to measure the performances of the governor is to look at the lives of the people of the state whether it has reasonably changed. As for me, my life has not changed. I have not seen the impact of the government in my life. In fact, all I hear is that billions comes into the state and it has not in anyway affected my standard of living. So, as long as I cannot see government impact in my life and the people around me, my conclusion is that this administration has not performed at all because it has not affected my life positively.

Ojo Victor

The three years of Mimiko in office is full of deceit as he has succeeded in deceiving every one in the state and beyond. It is also characterized by unfulfilled promises. I will work for you, I will know you all by name, no one will go to bed hungry etc. Today, he has worked more for himself and his family, he knows no one in the state except his families and majority in the state now go to bed hungry. The hopes of many sincere citizens are dashed already in the sense that many made a lot of unquantifiable sacrifices for him to emerge with the hope that he will turn around the economy of the state.  Now there is nothing tangible to show for it. All his policies are window dressing and wasting of resources. Despite his pretest there is encouragement for thuggery in Ondo state. His administration is nothing but a total failure.

Ayo Shearer Adeoye

Mimiko has really tried by executing a lot of projects on air. After his first time in office, I think he should be advised to go and let another person come on board. I think the people of the state have gotten the best of the man called Iroko. His best to us is not satisfactory so by 2013  February we want a replacement for him.

DOES THE N97 PUMP PRICE ANNOUNCED BY THE GOVERNMENT ACCEPTABLE TO THE PEOPLE?

For a week, Nigerians were on the street to protest the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government a situation which led to increment in the pump price of petrol. After series of protests and negotiations, the federal government reduced the pump price of petrol to N97.00 from N140.00. People’s court went round the town to find out what the people’s reactions were concerning the compromise.

Dr. Olotu A

The federal government has unilaterally reduced the price of petrol from N140.00 to N97.00 per liter. But it is quite unfortunate that the masses spoke and the federal government refused to listen. But the way it is now, I want to say Labor has also taken a very good decision because we are witnessing some division in the system. The NURTW seems to have sold out and the market women are agitative already. I think it will be rational for NLC, TUC and civil society organizations to suspend the strike for now as the negation continues. I believe strongly the Labor, TUC and the civil society organizations should go to the committee set up by federal government as we are not sure of the real quantity of consumption level of petroleum in the country today. Some are saying it is forty million why some say it is thirty-five. The CBN governor has even said it is not up to thirty-five million. So I think this is an opportunity to really investigate the real quantity we are consuming and the rate at which we subsidize. And remember that the petroleum minister claimed that we produce thirty percent of our consumption locally and by the time all these are sorted out, we may still have further reduction. I appeal to the masses to show understanding with ourselves in this period.

Olatunde Oluwagbemi

The issue of N97.00 per liter is not something we can just accept like that. We must fight against this injustice because our leaders do not feel the pain. It is the masses that feel the pain we should not in any way agree with the new price the federal government has brought instead we should still look for the possibility of returning to the old price of N65.00 per liter. This will help the masses a lot.

Babalayo Olutayo

As far as I am concerned, the Nigeria masses are so determined to ensure that the price is reversed to N65.00. But whichever way, we want to thank everyone that has participated in the struggle. They have reduced the PMS from the amount they take it to initially back to N97.00. Let us now wait and see what the money is going to be used for, though, Nigeria government is very difficult to trust all the same we still need to give them the benefit of doubt. The Nigerian masses must as well be commended as they have shown that power belongs to the people and this is a sign that a democratic government that we all elected cannot impose an unacceptable decision on Nigerians. I also want to believe that the government will think twice before they take any decision with the way the Nigeria people have handled this issue.

Dr. Olusoga A. F

This morning we heard from the president that the price of petrol has been reduced to N97.00 per liter. Actually when we look at this, it is a plus for the masses as the power that be would have loved to maintain the status quo. If you remember, the federal government had earlier threatened that it will not shift ground. Over the weekend, it was even speculated that the price will be pegged at N120.00 but their bus stop now is N97.00. If not for the resistance of the masses, we would have been in serious mess by now. I just want to encourage Nigerians to continue this struggle for better standard of living as it is the only way we can guarantee our freedom.

Shehu Ganiyu

The new price of petrol as announced by the federal government is a necessary evil we have to accept. You know many people have tried their best some have lost their lives, properties and loved ones in the struggle against the removal of the subsidy. But by and large kudos to Nigerians for putting up a good fight against this injustice and this should be a lesson to us that if we are united against any form of oppression we will always get rid of them. I want to take this opportunity to appeal to all the market women, taxi drivers and other suppliers of commodities of good and services to be considerate in increasing the price of their services so that we will not be making life uncomfortable for ourselves.

Femi Pariola

I believe that N97.00 is a reasonable price for now going by the fact that both parties (the labor unions and the federal government) have shifted ground. It is a compromise price. But I will strongly urge the federal government to allow the committee set up to be independent. That is, there should be no interference from any interest. Also the government needs to use the money judiciously by investing it in those areas they have promised us
We hope that that the government will fulfill their commitment to the masses so that the reasons for the sacrifices that we are making will be justified. I equally use this opportunity to congratulate Nigerians for the role they played in ensuring that the government reversed the pump price from the astronomical price they took it to.

Gani Mohammed

Certainly I am not pleased with the price. The NLC and TUC sold out in the struggle. You know as I do that any increase in the price of petrol will affect other goods and services because it is a product that goes into other goods and services. The masses should not be impoverished just for the sin and inefficiencies of the government. A lot of people in power have used the fuel subsidy to enrich themselves at the expense of all of us. We doubt the formation of the committee and I am using this medium to tell Nigerians and the people of Ondo state that the civil society and other nongovernmental organizations are not in support of this killer increment and at the appropriate time we shall react

Fuel subsidy removal: What do you think President Jonathan should do?
President Goodluck Jonathan removed the fuel subsidy on the 1st of January 2012. A week after, organized labour issued a sit at home order to its members nationwide. The strike action has since entered the 5th day yet there has not been any meaningful truce in sight. Peoples’ court went round the state to source the opinion of the people on what the Federal government should do to end the strike.
Rev Fr. Patrick Adebayo

My advice to President Goodluck Jonathan and the state governors who supported the removal of the subsidy is that they should respond quickly to the demands of Nigerians. The price of the Premium Motor Spirit, PMS should be returned to N65.00 per liter. It is from this point that we will begin negotiation.  If the pump price is not brought back to N65, we will not negotiate. As the struggle advances, the government should listen to the voice of the people because this is democracy the government of the people, by the people and for the people. In this, our president should not turn himself into a dictator as he appears to be behaving in that direction. The development of this nation is our priority and that is what we are all out for. If they claim that the removal is in our favour and we say we do not want it now then why insisting on the policy?

Alex Adesida

My advice to the federal government and president Jonathan is that they should look inward and tackle the problem from where it started from. We are tired of this mess and the attendant suffering because of some selfish cabal hanging somewhere. Anyone who is in government and fails to handle this cabal does not worth to be in government. With this situation of Jonathan, if he felt he can no longer handle the affairs of this nation, he should take a bow and leave. We will respect him for that instead of walking in the path of Mohammed Gaddafi and Hosni Mubarak. We are over one hundred and eighty million in this nation and we cannot be fooled again like we have been in the past.

Dr. Borishade

The federal government should return to N65.00 per liter and ensure that they go into serious negotiation with the labor and other civil society organizations to address those critical issues of the nation that should be in place before deregulation of the downstream sector. That is the minimum that could happen now. If they do not do that, by the end of this week, we will start to call for the resignation of the president and his cabinet members.

Adepoju Adeshina

My advice to Jonathan is that he should consider the masses and understand that he became the president through our votes. The president should as well understand that it is wrong for him to just wake up and increase the pump price of PMS. This action of the government is inflicting pains on millions of Nigerians that are jobless. The increament has made prices of commodity and services to increase with over one hundred and fifty percent. The initial price of N65.00 is not affordable and someone is now increasing the product with over one hundred and fifty percent. This is not okay for all Nigerians at all. President Jonathan should remember that Abacha and Mariam went to Aso rock and Mariam came back alone ditto for Obasanjo and Yar’ardua. With the utterance of his wife recently “my fellow widow” Jonathan should be very careful so that nemesis will not catch up with him as Nigerians are saying no to this removal of fuel subsidy.

Rev. Gbenga Awe Joseph

We have in the past partner with the government to see that this nation progresses. With the way we have listened to the president on television on the removal of fuel subsidy, I am saying it is not in any way acceptable to Nigerian masses. If the government is arguing that our petroleum products are smuggled out through the border, it shows that they have lost control of the security situation of the nation. The solution to this problem is not by increasing the pump price of PMS in a way that it will affect the masses of the country. The solution to this problem is that the president should firstly understand that people voted for him across board and if he has to lay his life for the people of the country against those that are pushing him, he has to do so. With the way things are going if the president does not revert to N65.00 per liter, his name we go down the history as a president that cannot stand for his people and civil disorder will continue as it is now.

Ifeoluwa A O

What the president should do now is that all the bad advisers around him should be removed with immediate effect. The president should know that people are now enlightened as we are in the era of freedom of information. The president should as well understand that the nation is moving toward anarchy if this issue is not laid to rest once and for all. I am using this period to appeal to him to, as a matter of urgency get good advisers in replacement of these bad ones.

Ismaila Waliu

The policy is anti people and should be condemned by everybody. It is bad because the ordinary Nigerian has already been impoverished by the cabals in power. They have mismanaged our resources, no light, no employment nothing works here. You can imagine the level of suffering and now President Jonathan is saying the only benefit that comes to the masses should be withdrawn. It is absolutely out of order. The president should with immediate effect rescind his anti people policy and bring the pump price of the Premium Motor Spirit, PMS down to N65:00. From that point he can now commence a broad based negotiation with the civil society, organized labour, student body and all stakeholders on how to solve the problem.

Obanoyen Abiola Adidas

The removal of fuel subsidy has led to serious break down of peace in our society and this is a reflection that the government has not done their home work properly.
My advice to President Jonathan is that he should be sensitive to the country he is leading. No matter how good his intention could be he still need the support of the Nigerian to execute them so he should carry the masses along. Also, the president should know the hardships and pains that accompany the removal of fuel subsidy and since there are no measures to take care of these pains and hardships, he should forget the removal of the subsidy.

Is the removal of fuel subsidy a good policy?

On the first of January 2012 the Federal Government announced the withdrawal of the much debated fuel subsidy. Aftermath of the withdrawal, pump price went up to N145 from N65 per litre. People’s court went round the state to examine the effect of the change in the pump price on the citizens.

Segun Omopekun

The current situation we found ourselves in this year 2012 is terrible. The increment in the pump price is not a gift anyone would wish to receive in a New Year period. I will base my reasons for this on two points. The first is that the national assembly has extended the life span of the 2011 budget till the end of the first quarter of the year. The meaning of this is that the budget we are still operating now is still 2011 budget which still has the inclusion of the subsidy in it. So, the removal of the oil subsidy should only have taken effect from the expiration of 2011 budget. Secondly, increase the petrol price is a way of increasing the price of all other goods and services. The situation that is prevailing now, Nigerians are not in anyway prepare for it and it is like unleashing terror on the poor and toiling masses which is worst than what the Boko Haram is doing. The worst mistake we have made is electing Jonathan as our president and it is very unfortunate.

Prince Femi Famakinwa.

I do not see the fuel subsidy as necessary for now while on the other hand, I am of the opinion that the President of the country Dr. Goodluck Jonathan should be allowed to run the government in anyway he thinks the nation could move forward. We must understand that there are multiplier effects of these issue of subsidy especially from the political angle and I think between now and the time he will be concluding his administration, we will know by practical experience whether we are to allow him to continue after all we all voted for him to become the president.

Prince Olayinka Adebayo

Considering this latest development, my conclusion is that the administration of Jonathan has not been fair in his dealings with Nigerians. The argument of our leaders is that we have not been buying fuel at the rate we suppose to be buying it. But I felt so bad that they have not put into consideration the fact that we are oil producing nation. Another important challenge I want to put across to our government is that let them tell us any oil producing country that is buying fuel at the rate Nigerians are buying. All these arguments in support of fuel subsidy removal are untimely. The government ought to have put into consideration the effects of what they are doing. Now life is becoming harder for the people while those in government make use of public property. PHCN is not functional, drinkable water is not available. The government has not been forthcoming in anyway to the people of this nation and I think it is time we rose up as a nation to find a lasting solution to all these problems of bad governance.

Rotimi Adetokunbo

I think you can see for yourself the effect of the subsidy already. Ordinary pure water that is sold for N5.00 is now sold for N10.00. Where you take taxi to for N30.00 is now N60.00. From Akure to Lagos now, you have to pay three thousand naira. Now, tell me how do you want those farmers to bring their products from the farm to the market? At the end, maybe the products they have brought to the market are not up to the cost of transportation. The prices must go up. My brother these are practical effects of subsidy removal. In fact the prices of good and services is going up with over one hundred and fifty percent and if this persist for the next one week, only God knows what will happen. I therefore use this opportunity to appeal to the federal government to reverse the policy.

       Olowa Felix

I think it is a good policy which at the end of it if the government in sincere in the implementation and utilization of the rescued fund, the masses will be better for it. The reality is that at the beginning it will inflict hardship on us but all we need is to endure the little period that it will bring hardship. The government should as well put in place some measures to weigh down the effects of the subsidy removal. I hereby want to implore Nigerians to be patient as the effects of the fuel subsidy removal are only ephemeral at the end we will all smile.

Ademokuni Funmlayo

I have heard different sides of the argument of this fuel subsidy removal. From the side of the government, the claim is that the money of the subsidy ends up in some few hands and if the subsidy is removed, it will be invested in the other areas of the economy. From the arguments that the Nigerians are raising, they cannot afford the astronomical increment in the price of the Premium Motor Spirit, (PMS). From my views, I think Nigerians cannot trust the leaders in anyway. At the end of the day, am afraid the subsidy that is removed from fuel subsidy may be stolen by some people. Also, before the government should implement the removal of subsidy, salary of workers should have been increased and other steps must have been seen taken to arrest the effects of the subsidy removal.

Tope Ademujimi

The issue of fuel subsidy removal has been a continuous debate for some years now and I believe it will still continue. But one major concern that I have is that there has never been anytime that the government has effectively address the issue of un-employment and salary increase. No doubt, the effect of fuel subsidy removal is that all commodities and services will attract increase in price in direct proportion to the increase of the pump price of petrol. As long as the government empowers the citizens to meet up with the effects and challenges of the increment in the pump price of petrol through the removal of fuel subsidy, no problem. But in a situation where the citizens are not empowered to meet up with the effects of the removal of the fuel subsidy, there will be serious crisis.

OF WHAT ECONOMIC BENEFITS ARE THE BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION IN ONDO STATE?

Beautification of Oba-Adesida road in Akure is one of the major controversial projects of the state government which according to reports have gulped huge amount of money. Peoples’ court spoke with some indigenes of the state on their perception about this controversial project.

Adewole Fatoyinbo

The beautification embarked upon by the government at this present time is a waste of money.  It has not added any economic value to the people of Ondo state likewise Akure. I consider it a colossal waste of money because it is not a timely project at all. There is other commanding sector of the economy that affects the lives of the people that government ought to have spent money on. For instance the agricultural sector which affects the lives of the people and the economy has not received proper attention. Will the people of Ondo state eat flowers? Don’t you know the employment the agricultural sector is capable OF generating? Planting of flowers is just a misplacement of priority.

Adekunle L

Beautification project as far as I am concerned is a waste of money and in my own views; I do not think it should be the area of concentration of the government. For now no reasonable government in a state like Ondo state should make beautification a priority. Why do I share these views? The reasons are simple if you look at the huge resources that have been committed to this beautification; it is enough to put in place process that could have added more economic values to the people of the state. Look at the OSUTECH, if the place had fully taken off, you know the number of employment it would have created, how education would have been made easier in the state and trading in the environs would have been boosted. All that the university needed to pick, if it has received the amount it received on beautification the story would have changed. I think the government has not gotten it right in the area of beautification.

SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT START PUBLISHING OF THE FINANCIAL POSITION OF THE STATE?

Since the inception of this administration, Dr Rahaman Mimiko has not made publishing of the financial position of the state a cardinal responsibility of his government. People’s court spoke with some citizens of Ondo state on their views concerning the need for the government to make its account public

Ogunjobi Taofik.

Publishing the financial activities of the state will allow transparency in governance. It will also make everyone in the state to have a sense of belonging and participation in governance. At present in Ondo state, it is difficult for our government to publish the financial details of the state because there are inconsistencies or irregularities in the account. In my own judgment, all the details of money received from the federation account, the IGR and other money accruable to the state should be made public. This will make every indigene of the state to have independent assessment of the government and ask necessary questions. To me, this is also the essence of democracy.

SUNDAY AKINFOLARIN.

The importance of the government publishing the state of our finances cannot be over emphasized as it will make people to be current or keep them abreast of the state of the finances of the state of the State. Publishing the state of our finances will also make the people of the state to have the knowledge of how the government has spent the state fund and where our money has gone to. Take for example the present administration led by Dr. Mimiko is doing what he likes with our money. No reasonable budget. It is either he starts a budget and not finishes it or jump out of budget and start doing something else. For the first time, we are hearing of a re-ordered budget and at OSOPADEC now there is no 2011 budget yet money keep flowing in from federation account and the state government has not for once briefed us on the utilization of this funds. Another funny thing they spend our money on is political thuggery and anti-peoples project. So let us all challenge them to make public the finances of the state.

Olawoyin Akinsola.

It is necessary that the state government should start publishing the way they have been spending the money in the state. So far, they have not been doing this because they have been spending the money the way they like. If you look around the state there are many abandoned projects which in paper analysis the government claimed they have completed. This government as I see them has not been transparent enough and the people of the state are not comfortable with the way they are handling the finances of the state. In the town that I came from, what we see this administration doing is that they encourage gangsters and hooliganism. Around the town now you will see many thugs under the payroll of the government terrorizing the people in the name of government. Many of them ride on exotic cars that top civil servants cannot boast of. This is where government has been concentrating our funds and I think its time we took them up.

A Babatunde.

Publishing the state of finance of the state for the consumption of the people of the state is a welcome development that will strengthen our democracy and make people have confidence in the governent. But I do not think this present administration in the state will be ready to do that now because of the high level of corruption that has characterized their operations and dealings. As you may be aware, this is a family government and all the finances of the state revolve around the family of Mimiko. With this attitude I do not see them publishing the account of the state.

Omopekun Segun.

Yes I strongly believe that the government should publish the state financial details on monthly and quarterly basis. This will enable the people to know how their resources are being spent or managed by the government. It will also show how transparent and accountable the government is. What we have we are having in the state at present is a case of motion without movement. In fact if they publish it every month is not out of place. We are in a global village where at the tip of your finger you can assess any information so government should as a matter of necessity put their monthly receipt of all incomes on the net for the people to see. They should emulate our finance Minister.

IDOWU OTETUBI.

Accountability is an uncommon virtue in governance. It is sad that most people in government nowadays do not appreciate the need for stewardship in governance. It is one of the ancillary financial responsibilities of any leader at any level of government to render stewardship account to enable the citizen to know the financial status of the state. Flowing from this, as a major player in the financial sector, without any sense of rendition of account there will always be mismanagement of people’s resources.
I am surprised that the state government has not been making public the financial position of the state this runs contrary to the principle of transparency and openness. Look at Okonjo Iweala, the moment she became the minister for finance she mandated her ministry to always publish the monthly statutory allocation given to the state and that of the federal government. Why is it that our governors find it difficult to copy this good example? I think it is a good thing to start it in Ondo state at least once in every quarter so that people will know what you have got and what you have done with it. In any case you can get it from the ministry of finance and I think a citizen of this state should be able to get it in the ministry of finance here in Ondo state. That is my expectation from the government.
MODUPE ADEBUSUYI

I think it is a good thing if the government can start it. It will show to the people what they are up to. This should not have generated debate in the first instance because this is what the government should have done without any pressure from any quarter. If they can not publish the state balance sheet at least every quarter what then is the function of the ministry of finance? I think the government should start publishing of the state account without further delay.
Publishing it every three months will be fine at least in two national dailies and in the state owned Hope newspaper.

WHAT SHOULD GOVERNMENT DO TO STOP THE ACTIVITIES OF THE SECT; BOKO HARRAM?
The popular Islamic sect Boko Haram had for a long time been in the news for its several attacks on the people of the country. Peoples’ court went round the town to find out what the people think government can do to stop the activities of this sect.

FEYISAYO JIMOH

it is very unfortunate and highly regrettable that Nigeria especially the northern part has become unsafe for lives and properties of the citizens because of the activities of Boko Haram. We cannot discuss the solution to these problems without knowing the root of the matter.
Firstly, if we are saying the activities of the sect is political then, the political leaders in the country should come together and in the interest of the nation to resolve it. If it is on the basis of religion, the government should summon the religious leaders and re-orientate them so that they can talk to their subjects on the need to allow peace to reign in the country.  In a situation whereby the problem is discovered to be un-employment, jobs should be created so that the idle ones could be gainfully engaged.

ADEBIYI MAYOWA.

I want to share the view that the action of Boko Haram, the dreaded Islamic sect ought o have received a lasting solution by now. The effect of the uncontrolled activities of the sect is affecting the country in many ways especially our international reputation. I think President Goodluck Jonathan should toe the path of late President Umaru Musa Ya’rdua when he was handling the issue of the Niger Delta. Also, we as Nigerians we have responsibilities of appealing to ourselves to tolerate each other no matter the challenges we are facing. All these people live among we Nigerians. We know them is only that the people are not cooperating with the government to stamp out this mess. We are no longer safe in our country as if we are in a situation of war. Government and the people should be ready to solve the problem.

TEMIDUN AKINTIMEHIN.

The issue of Boko Haram requires a careful approach. Some have opined it is a religious problem while some have viewed it to be political. Unlike the case of the Niger Delta that was a pure struggle for economic emancipation, the issue of Boko Haram is more sensitive than that and the best approach I think the government can use is to dialogue.

Olajide B.Bankole.

I am of the opinion that the government has all the machinery at its disposal to curb the activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria if they are really interested in doing that. But my fear is that the issue of Boko Haram in Nigeria has been politicized because of the way people are hiding under religious, ethnic and political dichotomy. Look at the post election violence that led to the killing of members of National Youth Service Corps. You can see that people were hiding under political differences. My advice to the government is that they have all that it takes to resolve the issue of Boko Haram. Nobody had thought them how to lobby their way through in removing fuel subsidy so they know what to do and they must do it on time.

RICHARD BANKOLE.

The issue of Boko Haram has become a national and international embarrassment. The solution I want to recommend to the federal government is to fine tune a way of inviting the stake holders in the region where these activities of the sect is rampant and call them for a round table discussion. Some of the factors that could be linked with these activities are illiteracy and un-employment. Look at the approach the government used to resolve the issues of the Niger Delta people, the militants were granted amnesty, sent to different part of the world for training so that they can adequately develop themselves in other to be useful to the society and themselves. Like it is popularly said and idle hand is a devil’s workshop. In conclusion what the government should do is to invite the sect for a dialogue and use the approach used to resolve the Niger Delta matter in resolving the Boko Haram issue.

Idoko Samuel.

The only way the government can solve the issue of Boko Haram is to identify the political, religious leaders and other stakeholders in the northern part of the country and call them down for a discussion. This is because I share the believe that these leaders know these terrains very well and the characters that are likely involved in this movement. Like the case of the Niger Delta, you will recall that the political and the traditional leaders played vital roles at convincing the militants to accept the amnesty program. This they did and peace reigned in the country. I equally want to suggest along this vein that the government should fashion out modalities with the stakeholders in the area on how to eradicate the activities of the sect.

DAVID ONOJA.

The problem of Boko Haram can be said to be socio-economic and political. An average Nigerian is frustrated and has nothing to show for existence. Hunger, poverty and un-employment have overwhelmed the Nation. You see these days; our youths in trying to make ends meet can sacrifice anything. That could be reasonable to someone who has resolved to be a suicide bomber. What government should do is to make life more attractive to the entire citizens by improving the standard of living of the society, embark on re-orientation programs that can promote peaceful co-existence.

Adedipe Ojo.

The issue of Boko Haram is a political issue and it must be given a political solution. The federal government should not make a mistake of using a military action against this Islamic sect rather a diplomatic approach must be used in such away that the crisis will not escalate.
I also want to suggest that there should be provision of employment as most of the youths that are involved in this menace are jobless. While the government is using diplomatic approach, they must also have in mind that inequalities in the social class could made people to resolve to this. So the government has the responsibility to bridge the social class where everyone we feel protected in the system.

THE GOVERNOR OF CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA RECENTLY ASSERTED THAT ONDO STATE IS FINANCIAL UNHEALTHY. This has generated a lot of reactions considering the fact that the immediate past governor Dr. Agagu left N38b in the state coffer and Dr. Mimiko’s administration had in less than thirty months in office received almost three hundred billion naira. Peoples’ court went round the town to find out what people’s opinions are.

Oluwole Babalola

It is not just enough to say a State is broke. What the Governor of the CBN should have done is to release the detailed account of the State showing all allocations, revenue generated, all expenditure undertaken, and all debts incurred. The next thing is to release this information so that the State’s taxpayers and stakeholders can have an input, for example, the people will corroborate or deny any expenditure undertaken or not. Also, I believe it’s time we abrogate the immunity clauses or at least set boundaries for it such that when one human being at the expense of million corruptly enriches himself and runs the Government into bankruptcy, such Governor should be arrested and tried in a court of competent jurisdiction. If Sanusi fails to do this then I dare say he is a kettle and Mimiko is a pot. Both have allowed corruption to smear their hitherto respectable statuses. As far as I am concerned my state cannot be broke because we have more than enough.
GANI MOHAMED

I am afraid if Ondo state is actually broke.  But if we must adhere to what the Governor of the Central Bank Mallam Sanusi Lamido or Senator Olubunmi said then there is problem. If you are familiar with the financial situation or revenue strength of the state, you will continue to wonder why the state must be declare broke. The immediate past government led by Dr. Agagu left thirty eight billion naira for Mimiko as a take- of grant and thereafter, we have realized so much from the federation account and internally generated revenue but there is nothing to show than to hear that we are broke. It has been one of my agitations that the balance sheet of the state should be prepared and published at least twice in a year. By my assessment, I have not seen any project that could measure up to half of what the state has received as allocation from the federal government. I will for the benefit of doubt accept that the state is broke except Mr. Governor says the state is not broke. Judging from what has accrued to the state so far the state cannot be broke. Visit the website of the ministry of finance you will see the details of what I am saying.

E. Gabriel

Looking at this issue critically from my own point of view, what caused this is an act of mismanagement from our government. From what we learnt or what is always in the news Dr. Mimiko’s administration met thirty-eight billion naira cash in the treasury of the state. Coupled with that, we learnt of the billions that had been collected from the federation account and looking around the state, you cannot say that the government has embarked on life touching programs that warrant the state to be broke. As much as I believe what the governor of the Central Bank said, I want to say that the state of bankruptcy of Ondo state is avoidable but due to prolifigacy and carelessness, the governor has made us broke and he should be held responsible.

KAYODE OLUWASEGUNFUNMI

There is nobody that you will tell that Ondo state is broke that will believe you. And if at all the state is broke, it could be as a result of mis-management. From my findings, I am aware that Ondo state is on number six on the list of the state in the order they receive money from the federation account. Also, over the years the CBN governor has proven himself to be right. If you remember shortly after he came to office he made the revelations that some banks are supposed to have been liquidated contrary to what his predecessor made us to understand and we found out that he was just telling us the truth. So we should take what he is saying serious and ask him the implication and the possible solution.

Ojo Clement

On no reason must we hear that Ondo state is broke. We are all in the state when the like of Agagu ran the affairs of this state for six years. While he was in office, we can talk about the achievement of his administration. Go to the riverine communities you will see the number of kilometers of roads that were constructed and the money Agagu received in six years is almost the same of what Mimiko has received in less than three years. When Agagu was leaving office despite his achievements, he left thirty-eight billion naira in the covers of the state and now this administration led by Mimiko is acclaimed to be broke despite the huge amount at his disposal. I think this is a confirmation that this administration is financially reckless and I want to say that the major characteristic of this administration is lack of financial discipline and as a matter of urgency something must  be done.

Gabriel Ezekiel

The state has no reason to be broke. We are all aware of the resources at the disposal of the state from the federation account and internally generated revenue. If they are telling us that they are broke, it is an indirect way of telling us that they have mismanaged our resources. On several occasions, I have visited the website of ministry of finance and I know how much has been given to Ondo state. In my own view, they are embarrassing our intelligence by telling us Ondo state is broke and nobody should take that from them.

Ajayi Femi

yes I have been following the proceedings in the senate and I think it was a senator from Ekiti state that started this revelation before the governor of Central Bank made his own declaration. If this statement is true, it is just a confirmation of what the pressure groups in the state have been saying about the governor. I do not see any reason why the state should be broke; it is just a reflection of the financial recklessness and mismanagement from the governor and his team.

WHAT SHOULD GOVERNMENT DO TO IMPROVE EDUCATION?
On September 19 2011, the teachers in the public primary and secondary schools resumed the new academic session with industrial action. The government and other stakeholders prevailed on the teachers to suspend the strike and give the state government three weeks ultimatum to accede to their demand. The demands of the teachers are yet to be met.  The peoples’ court went round the town to speak to the people on the possible solution to the problem in Ondo state

Ojumu Abiodun

My suggestion on how education can be improved in Ondo state is to firstly disregard this idea of building mega school because is just a waste of our resources. The old public schools should be upgraded to required standard. Also, more qualified teachers should be engaged with good salary structure across board. We are tired of inconsistencies of the government on the welfare packages for the teachers which most times lead to industrial action. The government must see it as a priority to improve on the welfare of the teachers

Emmanuel Pedro

Education is one of the commanding sector economies and by all standards, it should be given all the adequate attention by the government. You will agree with me that there have been a, lot of mis- understanding between the teachers and the government which has caused a lot of crisis in the education sector. The agitation of the teachers before they went on strike recently is the issue of 27.5% professional allowance and the heavy tax on them. In the general view, you will agree with me that what is causing misunderstanding between the players in the education sector is money and in my own view, what government can do to improve the deterioration of education in the state is adequate funding of the educational sector.

Adebayo Paul

There is a lot of mess in the educational system. On September 19th, the teachers and the students resumed this academic session with strike. After a lot of persuasion from the stakeholders, they returned to the classroom with twenty-one days ultimatum given to the state government. Many of us even thought they had resolved only four us to discover that nothing had happened. If I get the picture right, the welfare packages of those workers in the education sector should be reviewed after all those in the health sector do not have two heads and without teachers or education they cannot get to where they are. This is what I think the government should do to help the educational sector.
Festus A

the major problem I have seen in the education sector of the state is the government. This is because they make promises they cannot fulfill. They came up with the idea of N18,000 minimum wage for them to implement  it after they have signed it into law is a problem. The struggle of minimum wage was on when they came with the idea of relativity. After relativity it was tax regime and the resultant effect now is that the teachers are now on strike. Our children are at home while those in government have their children at private schools. What I see as the solution to this problem is that our government should learn how to keep to agreement and honour their words.

Matthew Sunday

If you get to University, ASUU will tell you they are going on strike because of allowances and lack of proper funding of education. The same thing is going on now at primary and secondary schools. The message is clear more funds must be injected into the educational system. But the government seems to have contrary opinion. This contrary opinion of the government and these myriads of demands must find a meeting point. This is what I think could solve the problems in our educational system.

Monday O

Only God can solve this generational problem. Today strike, tomorrow strike can someone tell me the meaning of all these? From my own view, I cannot blame anybody other than government because if they have been sensitive to the problems in the society there would not have been these incessant strikes. The solution to the problem in the education sector lies solely with the government. If they do not take proper care of education, what else will they do? I therefore advice them to wake up to their responsibilities.

Patience Joseph

The education policy at all level should be reviewed. This review must take into consideration the welfare of the teachers and other workers in our various institution of learning. Over the years, tutors have been complaining of non improvement in their living conditions. I think all the stakeholders in the educational sector should meet and in the present day economic reality should discuss what should be the take home of the teachers.
Also, the infrastructural development in the schools that can make the environment of learning more conducive should be put in place.

Lekan Olijogun

What I think government can do is to first involve educationists in the policy direction of their administration. A sincere approach towards solving the problem should be evolved. Teachers should be renumerated well and their welfare should be prioritized. When we were in primary and secondary school we enjoy good educational facilities though we were few but nowadays the facilities are no longer there and the population of students has increased astronomically. Government must fund this sector because it is the basis of the society. Most of the problems you see today are indirectly due to breakdown of our educational system. If free education is no longer practicable let us think of another way out instead of allowing the whole system to rotten away.

Saka Taofeek

Governments in Nigeria are found of giving unnecessary excuses. They have destroyed education in Nigeria and now they send their children to abroad. I support Wole Soyinka who said sometimes ago that a state of emergency should be declared in the education sector. Thereafter stakeholders should be called to proffer way forward otherwise things we continue to degenerate. Teachers need proper training for them to turn out quality students. Parents now prefer to send their wards to private schools where most of their teachers are not graduates and they pay. Not building of mega structure but mega policy that can guarantee workers welfare and reliable system.

Should the state governor support the federal government decision on the proposed removal of fuel subsidy?
The issue of fuel subsidy has dominated the national debate of recent due to the position of the federal government on the need for its removel. The Peoples’ Court went round the town to find out from people whether the decision of the government will be in the interest of the public.
RAPHEAL EHINMOWO.

I do not think anything should warrant the removal of fuel subsidy now because our people are suffering. If you look at the situation of the country, you will notice that people are in need of serious empowerment, there are other meaningful and responsible things that the government should do by now rather than removing the fuel subsidy. In my own view, I will not in anyway canvass support for the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government or any tier of the government supporting the agenda because it will inflict economic pains on the suffering and toiling masses. Governors should not therefore support the move.

Ademuwagun  Adekanbi.

Yes it is popular in the news that the federal government wants to remove the fuel subsidy.  As an indigene of Ondo state, I will not support the idea that our state government should support federal government in this process. Rather, the government of Ondo state, on behalf of the people of Ondo state should take a position against the removal of fuel subsidy. Removal of fuel subsidy in my understanding will increase the pump price of petroleum products. If this happened, the cost of transportation will increase in proportion to the increment of the product or removal of the subsidy. In this vein I will not advice Ondo state government to support the federal government in doing this.

Ayenuro Olumide.

I have heard of the issue of removal of fuel subsidy. Like I used to tell people, the federal government should learn how to use direct language. What they ought to have said is that they want to increase the pump price. That as it is, it is my opinion that our government can afford the subsidy after all, we know how much is lost to corruption especially through the political office holders. I therefore want to advice the government that they should not add to the pains of the innocent citizens as this subsidy removal will make life difficult and unbearable. Commodities will be more expensive. Imagine Ondo state that minimum wage cannot be paid and heavy tax is being introduced. I do not key into the idea of fuel subsidy removal and Ondo state government should take a position against it.

Esther Akingboye.

What the federal government is saying about the removal of fuel subsidy is to them the right thing. But for person like me that hails from one of the communities of the Oil producing state in Ondo state, I see it as an act of wickedness from the government that we elected recently. As a woman from the oil producing state, I can authoritatively tell you that our women are stranded economically as there are no empowerment schemes from the government. All our fortunes have been taken away from us and we are left unattended to like a destitute. The little we are supposed to be managing now will be spent on the multiple effect of increment in the petroleum products. I want the federal government to understand that this decision is not in the best interest of our people especially women and the government of Ondo state should take a position along this line

REGINA OJATUWASE.

The present situation in the country is tensed now many of the parents struggle to keep their wards together but the government is adding another dimension to this again. Removal of fuel subsidy has multifaceted effect. There will be inflation, the cost of transportation will be high there will be labor unrest, series of strike, the value of naira will diminish, electricity tariff will go up and many hard conditions will follow this. Then with all these aforementioned effects, it is very unwise for the government to remove the fuel subsidy. As a woman from the oil producing state, there is nothing to show for this in our communities and what we are having now in return is this idea of increment in petroleum pump price. This is bad our government should not try it because it is not good for us at this time.

Malo Janet.

I want to use this medium to appeal to President Goodluck Jonathan to have a second thought on this removal of fuel subsidy. This was not part of the electoral promises he discussed in his transformation programs. Removal of fuel subsidy is a pathway to economic crisis in this country. It will lead to increment in the cost of production and when there is increment in the cost of production, the prices of commodity will increase. As at now, there is heavy tax regime in the state, the issue of minimum wage is still un- resolved everything is just in serious state of disorderliness. As a market woman, the level of patronage is low and if the issue of fuel subsidy removal is added to this again, our situation will be like moving from fry pan to fire. The government of Ondo state should be mouth piece of the people of the state in canvassing against this disaster that is on the way. The subsidy on fuel must not be removed.

NMOR COLLINS.

There is no sincerity of purpose in Nigeria government. Removing fuel subsidy is not an issue at all what the government should think of doing is to build more refineries and upgrade the existing refineries. This will stop the importation of fuel because what I see as the foundation of all these problems is that Nigeria is exploring oil, export it and later import the final products back to the country. Also, I must say that removal of fuel subsidy is an attempt to create more hardship for the masses in a situation where our ex-leaders are building refineries in the neighboring country and exporting our crude and refine it in their own refineries, and later import it back to the country to sell to us at higher price is embarrassing. I therefore opined that the removal of fuel subsidy is an attempt by some cartel to make more profit. I will therefore advice the state government to appeal to the federal   government on behalf of the people of Ondo state to jettison the idea of removal of fuel subsidy.

Segun  Madamori.

The implications of removing the subsidy on fuel are many. It means the prices of petroleum products will be decided by market forces of demand and supply at the international market. This will push the prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene, lubrication oil, grease, etc beyond the reach of average Nigerian and because these products do not have substitutes, it will have multiplier effect on the prices of other products and services. Cost of transport will skyrocket, there will be hyper inflation, and the value of naira will be reduced. There will be a lot of unrest from labor unions and trade unions. In totality, the masses will experience unprecedented hardship. I will therefore use this opportunity to appeal to the government to desist from this decision as it will not be in the interest of the masses.

Are the people of Ilaje and its environ pleased with OSOPADEC?

In recent time, OSOPADEC has been in the news and the commission has been alleged of not living up to it responsibilities to the people of the coastal communities. People’s court was at Igbokoda to sample the opinion of the people on the state of OSOPADEC whether the commission is still known for what it used to be.
Ehinmore Ayokari

I’m happy for this opportunity to express my feelings on OSOPADEC, not my feelings alone but the feelings of all Ilaje people. By the way the commission is designed to operate, it is meant to take care of the people at the grassroot. By this, the people of the area are placed on priority list when it comes to the awarding of the contracts and community development projects to contractors. Also, when there are major capital projects, the contractors will massively employ the people of the communities or sublet the contracts to those that possessed the required skills. For the past two years of Mimiko’s administration, OSOPADEC has not been in touch with the coastal communities. There have been no projects going on and these have made the people of the coastal communities to be economically stranded and fell out of all programs of Mimiko’s government. Funny enough, our son that is the chairman of the commission is just there as a figure head he is not representing the interest of the Ilaje people. All Ilajes are not happy with the way Mimiko has incapacitated OSOPADEC.

Idowu Leke

Since the inception of Labor Party led government, nothing meaningful can be seen in Ilaje local government. From idiogba to Ebiwon, you cannot trace any single project to this government either through OSOPADEC or by the state government. During the administrations of Adefarati and Agagu, despite the fact that we said that they have not done enough, we can still count their projects in our communities.
The most annoying thing is that every month we are aware of what OSOPADEC is getting from the federation account. By arrangements, all the money that goes to all oil producing states, forty percent is to be given to the oil producing communities. The forty percent that is meant for the coastal communities cannot be seen as we only hear of this money but cannot see any effect of the money in the communities and in the lives of our people. Although they said they are working for the people of the coastal communities but I want to challenge us all if we can have the documentary of Ilaje shown on television stations so that the true picture of the communities will be seen by Nigerians. I want to advice the people of the oil producing communities to voice out as it is clear that we are being enslaved and cheated by this present government.

Oretan Dele

There is nothing in OSOPADEC again. It has been totally destroyed and this is the handi-work of governor Mimiko. We heard of N26b naira OSOPADEC fund which the governor cornered N20b naira and released only N6b naira to the commission. If you transverse all the oil producing communities, you will not see any project embarked upon by the commission. In the last administration led by Agagu, many roads, longest bridge etc were made through the use of OSOPASDEC fund but Mimiko is just eating the money. Having seen the attitude of the governor towards the OSOPADEC funds and the people of the coastal communities, I hereby want to recommend to all the coastal communities and the entire Ondo state people that on no ground must Mimiko be allowed to return for second time. This is because he will hold the state to ransom as he has nothing at stake again.

James Olowofoyeku

Our OSOPADEC is gone, nothing is there again. During the time of Adefarati and Agagu we enjoyed the best of OSOPADEC but it is unfortunate now that the good days of the commission have gone with the exit of Dr. Agagu. In those good days, every coastal communities indigenes always feel relax and confident as far as the future of the areas are concerned. In those days, our children in school get their scholarships and bursaries regularly but now, there are series of protests they have to embark upon before few of them could be paid. If you look at six years of Agagu in office, you can see the road moving from Igbokoda to Ayetoro which has now been stopped at Ugbonla. You will also recall the hectares of land that were sand filled at Ugbonla. All these are just to mention a few were the good works we had through the past two administrations but this administration led by Mmiko, nothing good has happened through OSOPADEC.

Abo-oluwa  Odusola

Nothing is coming through OSOPADEC likewise the state government. In the whole of Ilaje local government, there are no impacts from the state government at all. Since we have been having democratic form of governance in the state, we have not experienced this kind of disappointment. We have places where exploration of oil are going on and the commission that ought to manage what our areas is entitled to is not living up to expectation. This administration is making life difficult for the people and the oil producing communities are suffering seriously. With our experiences with this government, we cannot pray that this type of administration led by Mimiko should be in government again. All our roads are bad, our environments are no befitting and a government is in existence. In my conclusion, OSOPADEC has no meaningful impact in Ilaje.

Obayomi Olaoluwa

Things are not easy for us at all in Ilaje we complained that the past administrations have shortcomings but this one led by Mimiko is worst. Please help us beg them to remember that Ilaje is still part of Ondo state and the wealth of this state is majorly gotten from the oil producing communities. No light and other social amenities. Once again let this government be appealed to by all meaningful citizens of Ondo state that he should put Ilaje into consideration so that our people can benefit from the resources of the government which I know is a right and not a privilege. It is equally important to state that the OSOPADEC that has been made moribund by the government should at all cost be given life because that is the only tool through which developments can get to Ilaje. As at now we cannot see any projects traceable to the commission and the commission is yet to make any historic landmark since the inception of Mimiko’s Administration.

Moses Ojulowo

There is nothing like OSOPADEC anymore probably the commission has been scrapped. If the present government is sincere, from the complaints here and there by the people of the oil producing communities, he should know that the commission is totally out of touch with the people. I also want to believe that  the present predicament OSOPADEC found itself is deliberately orchestrated by the present governor. I want to say that I agree with all those who believe OSOPADEC has not performed at all in the last two and half years that the government has been on board.

Ojatuwase Oluwafemi

The state of OSOPADEC is worrisome now. With what we have known OSOPADEC for in the past, every indigene of the coastal communities is lamenting with the present state of the commission. OSOPADEC, since Mimko became the governor of Ondo state, has not achieved anything, it has not made any impact on the coastal communities likewise those that are living there.

WHAT ARE YOUR VIEW ON NIGERIA @ 51?

Obanoyen Adidas

Nigeria at fifty one, we are still battling with high rate of unemployment. Insecurity has formed the nucleus of debate at all strata of the society while our democracy is on trial. Our economy is confronted with corruption which has made it to be stagnant. The story of Nigeria is that of a country that is suffering in the midst of plenty despite the human and natural resources at her disposal. Although these problems are peculiar to the developing nations, but ours is orchestrated by bad leadership. However, the major task ahead of Dr. Jonathan now is to promote the peaceful co-existence of the nation. There is need for Mr. President to strengthening our electoral process by dropping this six year single term tenure. The youths must be given adequate attention and small and medium scale industries must be promoted. Happy anniversary

Sandra Odunola Ogunmola

Nigeria is a survivor having gone through several years of military maladministration and now going through political struggles, ethno-religious violence, election violence, economic and financial crime as well as terrorism. It is sad that these social ills may continue forever and in fact skyrocket if the issue of unemployment is not adequately addressed. The youths are the tools that are used by these evil minded statesmen to cause unrest in the nation. These youths whether employed or not must feed, cloth and provide shelter for themselves. They must live and not just exist. Somehow, even the right thinking elites in the society are now sympathizers of the suicide bombers who had to die in exchange for a few millions to enjoy few days in life at least for the first time ever. Creating employment will solve a great problem. The youth must be given a chance of survival or the nation become vulnerable to attacks.

Ilesanmi Ishola.

At fifty one, Nigeria's journey to nationhood began effectively in 1960. Till date, the journey has not been smooth. In fact it has been turbulent and rough. As at today we are not near our destination and the reason for this must be objectively answered by all and sundry.  Also until our leaders especially president Goodluck Jonathan find a lasting solution to the germane problems of insecurity, economic backwardness, poverty and  political crisis, the stability of this nation will be further threatened. There is no short cut to a better Nigeria at this time, all must ensure that they put in their best to ensure good and better Nigeria and President Jonathan should understand that he is to provide leadership if he is truly ready to transform Nigeria.

Adebiyi Mayowa

It's quite challenging that at fifty one that Nigeria has attained her independence from the colonial master it is still difficult to maintain reasonable socio-economic and political stability. From 1999 till date we have had consistent democratic governance; things are yet to take shape. We have had all manners of political leaders with different kinds of policies. Notwithstanding, I must commend all those who had one way or the other contributed to the sustainability of our democracy and the unity of the nation. The peaceful co-existence of the nation that we have all sustained is an unprecedented and all must be commended. I know there are still challenges here and there but I am convinced that the same spirit that had led us this far will lead us on. Happy Independence celebration in advance.

Oguntoyinbo Victor

So far so good, Nigeria has done well in maintaining unity among the various ethnic groups. But I must say we are not there yet. Our greatest challenge now is insecurity in the country. To be sincere, a true federal structure is a panacea to some of the numerous problems facing our great nation. The government is also expected to be consistent in their policies formulation and implementation. I congratulate Nigerians for their perseverance and it is my belief that we are almost getting to our promise land. Let us endure the more, let us tolerate each other and in the spirit of oneness, let us pursue a common goal. The sky is our limit.

Dada Olawale Eminence

As Nigeria clocks fifty-one, the president of the nation, his Excellency Dr. Goodluck Jonathan must find a lasting solution to the state of insecurity in the nation especially the Boko Haram sect which has become an ugly menace and a threat to the nation in all ramifications. I equally want to advice Mr. president not to compromise is stand by negotiating with the Boko Haram people because this will undermine the integrity of the nation likewise his. While I congratulate Nigerians as it turns fifty one, I want to appeal to us to tolerate one another. With consistent effort we can make Nigeria a place our founding fathers dreamt of.

Segun Iwalokun

Nigeria at fifty-one is worth celebrating because it is not easy coming this far. Despite the numerous challenges facing the nation, the nation still co-exist and manage its affairs very well. Kudos to all Nigerians.  By now we should be able to appraise the developments in the nation and identify areas that require urgent attention and attend to them. I will not agree with people who will behave as if all is well with the nation. All is not well but all that is required of us at this moment in the history of this nation is to strengthen our democratic institution and improve on the level of governance. There is no perfection yet but it is attainable with concerted efforts.
I will equally use this opportunity to appeal to our political leaders to put the interest of the nation first in all their pursuit as that will ensure better service delivery to our people.

Rotimi Fasua.

Nigeria since her independence has been moving forward but the problem confronting Nigeria majorly is the problem of leadership.  Our leaders have not been working in the best interest of the nation instead they have been busy enriching themselves and working for their personal interests. You will also agree with me that there are lots of problems facing the nation especially that of insecurity as recently symbolized by the Popular Islamic sect Boko Haram. Apart from this, the rate of un-employment is soaring everyday while we keep on rolling out graduates from our tertiary institutions. As we celebrate this 51st anniversary, we should equally reflect on the areas where we need to make improvement so that n the comity of nations, we will be able to justify our existence as a nation.  In the years ahead, I expect Nigeria to move in the direction of technology. It is only knowledge based development that can take Nigeria to enviable height.

Teachers strike who is to blame, government or Ondo state teachers?
Ondo state teachers went on strike because of the 27.5% professional allowances granted them by the federal government which was removed by Dr Mimiko, the governor of Ondo state. The teachers have constantly demanded from the government the restoration of the 27.5%. The Rocket people’s court spoke with some Ondo citizens on the teachers strike and its implications.

Olubunmi Ogunmola

All parents are sad for the situation our children found themselves. It is very unfortunate that the teachers have not been paid and they have resolved to go on strike. This is embarrassing because I thought any reasonable government should give preference to the education of our children who are by nature the future of this state and our country. You can now imagine how bad the situation is when these children who are supposed to be in school are roaming the street while their colleagues go to private school. These children have been on holiday for over a month and a responsible government supposed to have resolved this imbroglio before the children resume. If you remember, they have to stage a protest at the gate of governor’s office before they could write their third term examination. It is clear that this administration has not handled the case of teachers with urgency its demands. The government must do something about it. I hope they will resume shortly.

Olu Arifalo

I do not expect what is happening in our educational sector now. I feel so sad and highly humiliated that our children could be asked to sit at home while the children of the governor and his relatives are having uninterrupted education. I even heard recently that the governor is planning to retrench secondary school teachers. This attitude of the governor has gone a long way to tell us that he is a misfit in the seat of power and administration of this state. I keep telling those that care to listen that all the things that the governor is doing are deliberate and he cannot change. The only option before the people of Ondo state is to canvass for a government that have sound education policy that will put the interest of the teachers and the students first. Once again, I want to tell our people that this is the best that we can get from Mimko’s government and his best is not even good for the people of this state. As for me I don’t deceive myself and the only option I think we have is to chase away this government. During Agagu, every worker collects their salary at least five days before the month comes to an end but this administration is something else.

Ishola Ilesanmi

For schools to be going on strike at this time when the students are resuming is something that is very bad. It is bad in the sense that when these children are sitting at home doing nothing, time will be running against them. My advice to the government is that they should look into the grievances of the teachers and attend to them. This is not the era that we say the reward of the teachers are in heaven they are human beings and their reward is right here on earth. You will agree with me that everything our society is today is to a large extent a function of what our education is. So I am one of those who will not tolerate our teachers to be denied their entitlements let them be given what is due to them so that the students will be able to go back to school on time.

Idowu Omole

I cannot blame the teachers at all in any way it is only the government I have to talk to. It is the duty of the government to ensure that our educational sector is in good shape by ensuring adequate funding. The government should explain to us why they it removed the 27.5% professional allowance of the teachers because to the best of my knowledge, we have enough money in this state that can pay the teachers more than what they want. So I want to urge the government to redefine their priority and give preference to education. After all they have not been providing jobs nor doing things that are basic to the standard of living of our people. We cannot compromise education it is what Ondo state is known for so let them allow our children to resume.

Victoria Dupe O.

I am surprised because I never knew there is strike if not the way you are mentioning it. All I noticed was that these students around ten in the morning were returning home which was quite unusual. I want to believe that the government had earlier been notified about this problem and for them not to attend to it I think is bad and not proactive enough. I equally want to share the believe that our teachers have always been reasonable in their demands. We know how much is paid to the health workers and they patronize the same market with the teachers. I opined that government should always consider the plights of the teachers. So I want to appeal to the government that as a matter of urgency, our teachers must be paid so that our children could return to their respective place of study.

Yemi Faloye .

It is regrettable and unfortunate that we have found ourselves again in a precarious situation. I thought this issue had been laid to rest when the general strike was called off. Why is it that it is only the teachers that the government felt they can treat the way they like? Anyway I do not blame the teachers it is only the government that everyone should hold responsible for this strike. They are not doing much so they should be able to restore the 27.5% professional allowance for the teachers  and allow our children to go on with their studies. The past administration never had any problem with the workers especially the teachers all things went accordingly and we had peace in this state only God knows what had gone wrong with this present government. Anyway we shall continue to pray that God will deliver us from the taskmasters.

Gbade Kikiowo.

This problem is lingering too much. The most annoying part of it is that during the campaign of this man he promised heaven and earth. When he was sworn in he said he will work for us, as we can see our children cannot go to school, our brothers and sisters in teaching line want the restoration of their 27.5% professional allowance and other benefits. So can you tell me the essence of governance? To make the matter worse, the house of assembly will never come out to make position on this matter. The strikes are becoming too many. Government must do something about the incessant strike.

Adetoye Oluwafemi.

There is no way you can address a problem without addressing it from the source. The source of this ugly incidence is the government because they have gotten their priorities wrong. A situation where the government believes planting of flowers, destroying of existing roads without any reason should take preeminence over the welfare of the workers will result in the situation of teachers going on strike. The government has no hiding place the whole of the state is in support of the teachers and the demands of the teachers must be met. Let them stop deceiving us, there is enough money in the state what are they doing with the money? What is meant for the whole state must not end up in the pocket of the few. The teachers must be paid.

Ojo Clement Oluwatosin.

The strike by the teachers of the secondary schools is a reflection of the negligence of the government of the day. Under no condition should they have allowed this issue to degenerate to this extent. It is a failure on the part of government that allows this issue to degenerate to this level is an act of deliberate wickedness. How can you imagine that for over a month that the schools had been on holidays the government pretends as if all is well, now that the children will be roaming the street and you know an idle hand is the devil’s workshop. The children can take opportunity of this period to get exposed to crime and other social vices. In the interest of the future of this state, the government should allow the pupils to return to classroom by meeting the demands of the teachers.

Jegede Joseph.

That the students could enthusiastically resume today and they were sent home is not good for their psyche. I do not think the teachers are outrageous in their demands. From what I heard, it seems the present administration had cancelled what is called TSS for the teachers and this has been in operation before he dreamt of becoming the governor. This governor is going beyond his boundary a lot and he should be called to other. The teachers have done well by going on strike and I will advice them to draw the attention of well meaning Nigerians and Ondo state people to prevail on the governor  to do what is expected of him because I know he will not listen or accede easily to the workers demand .

Samuel Adeboboye

By and large, having local government caretakers is unconstitutional. But the main issue, apart from the constitutionality of the caretakers, is that: are the local governments having impact on the lives of the people? The local governments are to complement the efforts of the state governments, while the state governments are to complement the efforts of the federal government. Constituting caretakers in the local governments is bad. It is an indication that democracy is not yet in place. On the issue of the constitution of ODIEC, it is illegal. The hidden agenda behind this must be unveiled because there is still a case in court. The commission has five months to put in place modalities to conduct the council election. Now the case in court is to come up by October and the case could go either way. So, we do not know where we stand now. The simple interpretation of all these to me is that the governor has turned himself to the alpha and omega of the state. He believes nobody can question him over what he is doing. But I know our day of salvation is near.

Deji Ayejoto

This issue must be analyzed from the legal point of view. In this regard, I will point out that our constitution does not allow more than three months for the caretakers and there is still a case pending in court. Until the issue is resolved, the idea of putting ODIEC in place is unconstitutional. I am of the opinion that the court should decide first whether the case filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is valid or not before any responsible man should think of constituting ODIEC. So, what the governor has done is nothing but illegality of the highest order and my advice to the people of the state is that they should fall back to their political parties and start mobilizing because our judiciary could be funny a times. For us not to be caught unawares, we should be preparing for the election.

Alhaji Olutokunko Raheem Sule

On the issue you have raised, in all sincerity, if you look at what is happening in the state, you will see that there are a lot of abnormalities going on and the constitution has been breached by the executive arm of the government. But one keeps wondering why the case of the local government is lingering. The Nigerian judiciary is contributing to this problem we are having in this state. Will they say that, for the past two and half years that this case has been hanging, they don’t know what to do? I am sure the judiciary knows that in sincerity Mimiko cannot win the case. So, they are doing nothing than buying time. And you know Mimiko always plays smart. So, the Judiciary must rise to the occasion and lay the issue to rest once and for all. On the constitution of ODIEC, all the members are card carry members of Labour Party and Mimiko’s loyalists. I don’t have confidence in the members of ODIEC. The piper will always dictate the tune. There is nothing the ODIEC will do that will meet the aspiration of the people. Once again, I will say that the judiciary that is to be the last hope of the common man should address this issue once and for all so that we can have better life in Ondo state.
M. Adu

The way the governor has been doing it, it shows he does not believe in the constitution. The constitution is explicit enough that there is no interim government that can stay more than six months. But we recently had an interim or caretaker governments that stayed more than two years. Suddenly, without notification of the chairmen, around 3am, he dissolved them and the following morning around 9am he sworn in another set of caretakers. With Mimiko’s antecedent, he cannot be trusted with his proposed local government election by January. More so, cases are still hanging in court. All these unconstitutional actions of the governor are uncalled for, especially with the fact that he claimed to be an apostle of the rule of law. His constitution of ODIEC reflects a lot of biasness. With the way the ODIEC is being constituted now, they cannot serve the interest of the state. So, I advise the governor to desist from his unconstitutional acts.

S.B IBIRONKE

Mimiko knows he has not constituted any ODIEC because he knows there are still some standing litigations. When Peoples Democratic Party sued the state government on the dissolution of the last democratically elected local government officials, since the court has not finalized its decision on the matters brought before it, there is no way anyone could say that he is constituting ODIEC. Despite the fact that Mimiko himself enjoyed the rule of law to get to the seat of power, it is sad that he has been a violator of the rule of law. I think the governor knows what he is doing, all his actions are deliberate. They are tailored towards achieving personal goals. I know Action Congress of Nigeria will go to court and challenge this. I am a chieftain of the party and we have resolved to do that. The action of the governor is wrong. He that comes to equity must come with clean hands. It is becoming clear where he stands on the side of law and with time I know he will fail because all the members of the ODIEC are card carrying members of the Labor Party.

Modupe Olaleye

Mimiko is playing a trick as it has been his characteristic tendency. Those who know him from his early days will testify that he has always been a political fraudster. He cannot deny the fact that he does not know the constitutional implications of all his actions. He has a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) as his Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of the state. For God sake, this government knows that no interim government must lasted more than six months but the caretakers in the local governments spent more than two years. My brother it was too bad and a clear violation of the sacred constitution. Now, there is another dimension to it, the constitution of ODIEC. Yes having democratically elected officials for the local governments is good, but my fear is that nothing good can come out of any process put in place by Dr. Rahman Mimiko. This is because for every step he takes forward, there must be ten steps backward. He wants to do the election in disguise so that people or other political parties will be caught unawares. Ondo state should pray hard in this terrible period of bad governance as I see Mimiko using power that is vested in his office to undermine the rights of the people of the state.

Femi Balogun

From the inception of this administration led by Mimiko, it was clear that the man is out to run an illegal government. Even the judgment that brought him to power was known not to be in accordance with the known principles of law. In fact, all the premises upon which he was declared the governor violated the settled and known principles of law. Immediately he resumed office, he did not waste time in letting people know that he is out to run a government that will violate the constitution. Every step since he came on board has violated one or two parts of the constitution. The dissolution of the local governments was not in accordance with the laid down principles. Section 7 of the 1999 constitution and the Ondo state law on local governments, state clearly that before the dissolution of the local governments, every matter concerning it must be referred to the state House of Assembly. But the governor will just take unilateral decision and behave there is no law in the land. You remember when Agagu constituted ODIEC some time back, this same Mimiko was crying foul and members of his party approached the court. The same thing he challenged Agagu on then is what he is doing. This will tell you that he has no principle as well as conscience. The people that now constitute ODIEC are card carrying members of Labour Party. What do we expect from this process? It is unfortunate that the man Mimiko is taking the people of the state for a ride and what he has simply displayed is that he is in power and he can do what he likes regardless of what the law says. The only alternative the people of the state have is to ensure that the man is kicked out of the government house.

Over two and half years in the saddle of governance in Ondo State, has Dr. Mimiko impacted on the lives of the people of Ondo State positively?
Government is about the welfare of the people. Therefore, every government in any democratic setting must strive hard to meet the needs of the people substantially. People's court spoke with some citizens of Ondo state on the impact of government on their lives since the inception of the Mimiko led administration.

GBOLAHAN ADERIBIGBE

Our leaders are all one and the same. They will promise to build bridge where there is no river. Mimiko’s administration for the past two and half years has not impacted on my life positively. What we see around are mere charade, a government ran by puppets and nothing to show except promises- building castle in the air. They have made no impact at all may God save us.

MADAM ESTHER ADAH

Selling by the road side here is something we regret everyday. The shops or market that the government built is not in the interest of petty traders like us. How much am I making here that I will say I want to go and get shop in the market. It is not possible. Even there is no capital base for us to improve on our trade. If the government can make lone available to us money, it will be good. The money some people claimed the government had released is being used for their own personal benefits we do not know what is going on about the money. It has been used to take care of their family and those of us that are not close to them are not considered at all. As at now I cannot say the government has made any impact on my life. What we need from the government is money revolving loan to upgrade our trade because that will give us rest of mind than this LAPO loan.

WOLE ADEDAYO

This government, led by Dr Mimiko has not made any positive impact on my life. The man, with his government is deceitful. He should know that with all the aforementioned characters of his, he cannot have is way if he decides to re-contest.  There are so many factors that will work against him. Part of the factors is that no individual can say that the Mimiko led administration has made impact on his family or on him as a person. Come to think of it this man is the most fraudulent governor Ondo state has ever produced quote me any day any time. I have since lost confidence in his administration. He is doing nothing rather he is embarking on wasteful projects. So as far as I am concerned, the governor has not made any impact in my life in the last two and half years. I have nothing to show for Mimiko’s governorship since he came on board.

B. OLAWOLE OWODUNNI

I am the chairman of the Butchers’ Association here in Owo. I have been selling meat on this spot for over ten years. I have been in front of this Wema bank even before it was built. If I leave this spot now, I will lose all my customers and you know what that means, my means of livelihood and sustenance is gone. The recent market that the state government built will not in anyway help my daily income. Firstly, the market is not enough for everyone selling on the road and they are saying we should leave where we are now. So if I left here now and go to an unknown destination, how will my customers locate me and this means a lot of loss to me. So for now I have not felt the impact of government. The government has not made any impact on my life as a person. They do not pay me salary, no loan to upgrade my business, no free education for my children etc. all the government has done is to build market that is not enough for sellers and be asking us to leave this place. The rent is even another issue. They are yet to make impact on my life.

YUSUF RABIU

The situation around is very frustrating. I used to have a shed here where I sell my things but since the idea of building market came on board, the story has changed. Now I stay here come rain and sun. I have not been able to move to the market for two reasons. One as a northerner of Hausa extraction, I have been schemed out because I am not from Owo. Also, there is no enough space in the market despite that I still made effort to secure loan to get a space in he market, all my efforts yielded no result. The government has not been making any impact on my life everything around here is tribalised. So the only way government can impact on people like us is design a way of getting us loan to give a face lift to our trade. Anything from this is not realistic.

SUNDAY OYENBUCHI

Selling along the road is very risky and dangerous. As for me, as an Igbo man getting money to rent a shop in the market is not the problem. But the problem we are facing is that only the people from these areas are considered. They are the people that the politicians want to give shop to, this is too bad. The money that they even placed on the shop is too much it is difficult for people to pay. That is one of the reasons why we have to stay by the road side and sell. Funny enough some people do come here to disturb us that we have to vacate this place. This means that our means of livelihood is to be taking from us so, the best way I can say the government can impact on my life now is to find a cheap, conducive place for us to be selling and give us loan as well. As at now I can only conclude that the government has not impacted positively on my life on the other hand, they have been a constant threat to my life and I do not think the government is supposed to be a threat to my life. The government is supposed to give succor instead.

FELA  A.

As you can see, I am an Okada rider that is what I use to sustain myself.  I cannot steal. The government claimed jobs have been created but in Owo here I think the job created is yet to be seen. As you can see me, I don’t take salary from government, they don’t pay my house rent I have no link with the government. Nepa is not regular, I take water from the well, and I pay my children school fees. All my endeavors and achievements have been through my own sweat without the contribution of the government. So I do not know whether the government exists let alone affecting my life. Let me go and hustle and let forget about this government.

LAWAL KOLADE

The present government of Ondo state is built on deceit and with that there is no way they can have meaningful impact on the life of the people. Mimiko promised heaven and earth some years back but what we are seeing now is at variance with what he promised. Its quite some years now that I returned from NYSC and I am still stranded looking for job. There are host of Youths that are in my shoes looking for jobs. With this you should be able to conclude yourself that the government has not made any impact on my life.

OWEIBO CHRISTOPHER

Government has not made any impact on my life. The basic necessities of life which are shelter, feeding, education, health and others are things I made available for myself. All that I heard is the state received billions of naira as allocation monthly and someone is stealing them. I heard of white elephants projects, unrealistic and invisible projects. So my brother the government had not affected my live in anyway. I am the only one taking care of myself and my siblings. My fate is hanged in almighty God. The government is already found wanting in their social contract with the people of the state. And for them to have failed in their social responsibilities, I will make sure they are sent away before they render more havoc.

HOW DO YOU RATE THE PRESENT CARETAKER COMMITTEES?

Saka Taofik

with this situation in Ondo state, I can say the governor is being ultra-vires. I know this government has already failed. Imagine having caretaker committees spending over two years without doing anything and the people at the grassroots are not feeling their impact. They are supposed to be governments that are close to the grassroots. But the governor is just doing what he likes with the local governments. Anyway, their days are numbered. They will soon leave with their governor.

Omoniyi Adebanjo

As regards the question in view, I want to believe that the issue of caretaker committees has more to it. If you recollect, the case is still lingering in court. Perhaps that could be one of the reasons responsible for the over-stay of the chairmen. It is not good to me anyway for the people at the grassroots not to have any democratic structure. It is bad. The people at the grassroots are not having their interest represented because the local governments are not responsible to them but to the governor as he has imposed them on the people. To me, this is an aberration, an unconstitutional thing for a government that professes the rule of law. My advice is that the governor must uphold the constitution to by allowing election to take place at the local government level.

Lekan Lijogun

The governor himself knows that is unconstitutional. When he was a commissioner under chief Adefarati, he knew how Baba frowned at the illegality called caretaker. Considering what is happening at the local governments, it is clear that Dr. Mimiko has a hidden agenda. In 2010, Owo local government at a point was receiving N110 million monthly allocation and they had nothing to show for it. If we have democratically elected officers at the local governments, they will have some level of autonomy over their resources. But these hand-picked intellectual morons can only dance to the tune of their master. Even the House of Assembly that is supposed to be a guide on this issue is not forth coming because of what its member want to eat and the governor is tossing them like a wind here and there. In no distance time, the governor will pay for this. Funny enough, the senior advocate of Nigeria who is the attorney general of the state is playing to the gallery as well. Too bad! Anyway, it is not all SANs that know what is constitutional.

Bayo Falase

The problem we are having is that the people that are to interpret the law are sleeping. It is unconstitutional to operate caretaker governments at the local government level. I will not blame the governor and the lawmakers because they do not deserve the offices they are occupying. That is why they are misbehaving. As for the governor, he is an inconsistent human being. Having betrayed Adefarati, Obasanjo and Tinubu, it is not surprising that he is betraying the masses. Having the understanding that he is not doing well, he is afraid to conduct the election for the fear of loosing. Having a SAN as the attorney General and all this rubbish is going on is an indication that mimiko is a misfit.

Yemi

I do not like anything about this Labor Party. They are not running the affairs of this state the way it ought to be run. There are many things wrong with this administration and people are complaining seriously. How can a government that claims to be an apostle of the rule of law be operating an illegal structure at the local government level even with a SAN as the attorney general of the state? The meaning of this is that they are not supposed to be in position of leadership and the only thing I await is the sweeping away of this Mimiko-led Government.

Ojo Busola

The caretaker committees are doing what they like because they are not democratically elected. Their activities are a slap to the people and our constitution. In fact, I am pissed off. I don’t believe that we can be at this level in this state. The state is now lawless as shown by the caretakers spending over two years in office. Anyway, the struggle continues. I hope that one day, with our consistent effort, we will overcome the illegality in the state.

Gbenga Oke Oyinlade

For the past two years, these illegal individuals at the councils in the name of caretakers are a threat to democracy at the grassroots. I think the constitution is clear on the issue of the local government. It is clearly stipulated that any body that is not democratically elected must not spend more than three or six months. So, what is happening now is purely unconstitutional. And the governor by now should know that he should wear the garment of honour by returning democracy to the grassroots via the local government councils.

Adebayo Kolade

Constitutionally, the caretaker administration should not exceed three months but with their continuous stay in office, it is clear that the Labour Party government has nothing for the people of Ondo state. You should equally see it from this point of view that the Labor Party government is sending wrong signals to the people of the state that illegalities and unconstitutional activities are part of the philosophies of this administration. I hereby want to call on the governor to address this issue with immediate effect and the attorney general of the state who is a SAN should know his reputation is at stake.

Tunde Olufemi

In respect to the constitution of Nigeria, the caretaker governments in the local government areas of the state ought not to be in place. Although every citizen of the state seems to be handicapped by the emperor, but I think this has gone a long way to show that the Labour Party government is not the government in the interest of the people. The best solution to this is to send it packing. Thereafter, we can have an administration that respects our constitution.

Adegunlehin Joshua

The caretakers spending over two years is an aberration. This is a democratic environment and caretaker committees are not expected to be in place at the local government level. It is clear that the present administration led by Mimiko is using them as a stooge and conduits pipe to siphon the fund of the local governments. From the information going round, we heard that the governor now spends the funds of the local governments. In fact, he now performs the functions of the local governments by building markets and health centres. As at now, the state government has no meaningful projects. The caretakers are just there doing nothing. So, I want to appeal to the governor to consider the interest of the people by entrenching democracy at the grassroots.

WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ABOUT THE RESIGNATION OF LABOUR PARTY CHAIRMAN?

VOX POP

Funke Adedeji.
It is quite amazing. It is like a shock to everybody. It development was like letting the cat out of the bag. What he said about the Party and Dr. Mimiko is least expected.  It is bad of the Governor for not carrying along the chairman of the party in the process of governance. His resignation is therefore a shame to the party. This will affect the party in serious ways and peoples’ comment on the street shows that an end is coming to Labor Party in Ondo state. It will certainly create a vacuum in the Labour Party because of the carriage of the personality of Olaiya Oni. He is an administrative icon and a technocrat per excellence. Surely, the party will miss his service.

Adeolu Olowoniyi

I think it is a welcome development. This is a process that is long over due. With the pedigree of Dr. Olaiya Oni, we have expected him for long to maintain his good name. This process goes a long way to juxtapose the various positions some groups have been making on the Governor and his party especially Sunshine Liberation Forum. This is a good development to the people of the state, a welcome idea and big minus to the Labor Party.  It goes further to tell us that the Party is now a body without head. If the head is cut off, the body will definitely be rotten. For the government of Dr Mimiko,It is a tsunami on the way, majority of the progressive in the Labor Party will have to emulate Dr. Olaiya Oni and join the progressive in the Action Congress. With this action, Dr. Oni has distinguished himself and his name will be written in gold in the anal of history. I hereby want to use this medium to appeal to members of the Labor Party to liberate themselves from Iroko. With Olaiya Oni leaving the forest now, Iroko will be the lone ranger in his own political forest and you know a tree does not make a forest.

Prince Akindele Abiodun Pius

It is a big blow to the Party, the Party has fallen apart. The party is no longer on ground. It equally shows that the governor is not carrying his people along. As you will agree with me, leadership is symbiotic; it is about the followers the two are mutually inclusive. Resignation of Dr. Oni has shown that there is no relationship between the Party leaders and the members. Or at the very best the relationship is unhealthy. Labour Party as it is now is in serious problem and it shows they are coming to the end of their life span.

Segun Odidi

. Dr. Oni resignation is a welcome development. You remember the biblical injunction that any house that is built on falsehood shall not stand so it is for Labour Party now.  Before now, we have said it through our forum, that Ondo state is in the hand of a Sole Administrator and that is Mimiko of Ondo state. In a situation where an individual doubles as governor, Party chairman, and all other offices attached to the government and the Party, even to the  local government level others will definitely be redundant and there wont be enough incentives to give your best. This development has justified our argument that the state is in the hand of someone that cannot govern it. I congratulate Dr. Oni for resigning his appointment because he needs to resign for him to maintain his integrity and keep his head high. As the chairman of the party, he is not informed about what is going on it is SLF that has drawn the attention of the chairman likewise the erstwhile commissioners to the mode of operation of this government. His resignation can also point to the fact that this is the beginning of the end of the Labor Party in the State. You know Mimiko is equally a betrayal of the highest order it is in his character to betray and sacrifice people, that is exactly what he is trying to do with Olaiya Oni. So to those that are still in the Labor Party, they should listen to the voice of reasoning and  follow the step of Dr. Oni.

Olutayo Babalayo aka Olu T

. As member of LP in the state I dey laugh oh because that is the language we use to describe the situation that is going out of hand. The LP situation is going out of hand at an astronomical speed. When the head is faulty, the body is bound to decay. When I was on air to discus how Mimiko is ma- handling the state, people taught I was been sponsored. But as an insider in LP, I know within the next two to three months, it will not be surprising seeing the deputy governor resigning. When you have a government that uses autocracy in democracy, definitely people will revolt like the Arab world. But we will not allow it to get to that.  But then you should understand that we put him there democratically and democratically we will remove him. Dr. Oni’s resignation is timely and as an elderly man, he wont allow any young one to him cannot turn him to an errand boy and since the ovation is loudest, he has to leave. What Oni has done, some of us had anticipated it that was why we had left the Party earlier this year when he manipulated the primaries towards the last general election. He made us to waste our money, hard earned money from Europe assuring us that he will create level plane ground for all of us only for him at the eleventh hour to manipulate the table. For some of us who had left the party since, we realised that we cannot continue to labour in vain that is why the action of Dr. Oni is highly commendable.

Barr. Tolu Babaleye

.the meaning of Dr. Oni’s resignation is that things fall apart and the centre can no longer hold. We saw it coming because of the monumental fraud going on in the state. It  is unprecedented, we know that the LP chairman is not in the knowledge of what is going on in the governance of the state until Sunshine Liberation Forum came on board. We came opened the eyes of Dr. Oni and when he saw it he has no choice than to quit and save his name. The meaning of this to the state is that Mimiko government is an accidental government and we have to send him out accidentally

Hon. Kunle Odidi

.  I am of a Labor party extraction. It is an unfortunate development that the chairman of the Labour Party in person of Dr.Olaiya Oni has to resign. He is a man of honour that all of us in the Labor Party respect so much. A man that brought all of us together to form the Labour Party and was very instrumental to emergence of Dr. Mimiko as the governor. His resignation will cause a vacuum in the leadership of our great Party. It is very unfortunate. Nevertheless, I want to sympathize with the man because the reasons he enumerated for is resignation are germane and if I am in his shoe, I would have done the same. I think he has taken a good decision. The boat of the party is sinking and maybe the man felt he should not sink with the boat this is honorable for him. The effect now is that we have to start searching for a man like him so that we can forge ahead.

Atunbi Adewoye. If you remember four years ago when Peoples’ Democratic Part was to collapse in the state, it was the Party’s chairman Alhaji Alli Olanusi that first took a decisive step by resigning. Now history is repeating itself as Dr. Oni the chairman of Labor Party has resigned.
As I have earlier opined, LP is not a party that can go far and evidently, they are collapsing now. The governor recently dissolved his cabinet and the chairman now resigning will no doubt precipitate some crisis as those that are not comfortable with the process will soon opt for another party. So in my own view, we are just about to witness another change.

WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ABOUT THE REPRESENTATIVES IN ONDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY?

Babalola Moneyin Obesere.

The legislature is founded on the principle of separation of power. This arose from the need to check the excesses of the other arms of government and bring about balance. In Ondo state, the legislature is practically non-existent. With the level of abuse of power and gross violation of all known ethics of governance by the Mimiko led executives, it would have been expected of the legislature to be raising questions where necessary and working out solutions from oversight activities in order to protect the constitution they swore to defend and the people they owe service. This failure of the legislation cannot be pronounced on the judiciary yet for they have not been called to action in respect of their moral obligations .The legislative arm of the Ondo state government must wake up to its responsibilities and live up to the expectations of the people.
OLUSOLA ADEYEYE.

My opinion is that there is nothing to write home about the present House of Assembly. I refer to its members as a selection of confused people because the governor deliberately aided weak people to come to the House so that they can legalize his fraud. In my own view, they cannot do anything that will make the state progress. If we compare the past Assemblies to this one, we can conclude that this is a timid and coward session of the House of Assembly.
OLU MOSES. Members of this present House of Assembly seem selected and not elected. They are only representing the fraudulent interests of the governor and themselves. They always pass all the unnecessary bills sent to them by the governor into laws. We have no choice; we have to wait for the next election to sweep them away.
WEMIMO FADEKE .

This crop of legislators is terrible. They are a curse to the people of Ondo state. The governor brought them to be his pillars in the empire of fraudsters he is building in the state. They are equally a living testimony that the Labour Party has exhausted its relevance. As for me, nothing can come out of their Nazareth. All I'm waiting for is for the broom party to come sweep them away. It is not good to have the majority of the members of the house of assembly from the same political party. In a situation  where twenty five out of the twenty six members of the house assembly are from the party of the governor they will all dance to his tune when issues affecting  you and I are discussed. My brother this people are more or less the aides of the governor they are not representing their constituencies. In my own opinion they should be recalled for colluding secretly with the governor to borrow N30 billion loan stock.
PAUL OBASEGUN .

The ways and manners these House of Assembly members have been keeping silent on germane issues are a threat to the development of this state. I also see them as a threat to the survival of the state as they have formed an unholy alliance with the governor to be looting the state. As for me, all I await is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to come and deliver us from them because we need serious deliverance.
IDOWU OTETUBI.

Like one of my friends usually says, this is a house of approval and I agree with that. It is a rubber stamp house; it is where anything goes; where there is no opinion, no robust debate, no vision and mission. They are only carrying out the mandate of the governor. They are like this term in computer: garbage in garbage out. It is what he puts in them that they put out. It is not a proactive or pragmatic house. They only say what the governor want to hear. There is no dynamism there; they are docile. The assembly is a house of dead woods in my own opinion. We just have some people put together called house of assembly to rubber stamp what the governor wants.
OLOWOFELA IDOWU GIDIEON.

They have not offered reasonable contributions so far. They are moribund .We just have to wait till they leave so that we can have reasonable people to come in. What do you expect when you have a crop of people that have responsibilities thrown on them without preparation for service? Their elections are bank rolled by a single individual with the hope of manipulating them if eventually they are elected into office. That is one of the reasons why they will continue to do the biding of the incumbent. There are a lot of issues that demands explanations which the legislators have decided to ignore. They have maintained a grave silence over the accusation of fraudulent approval of the controversial N30 billion loan stock which the governor allegedly borrowed from the capital market.

ENIKANOSAYE OLUWASEUN.

They are nothing but cash and carry, clearing and forwarding house. House of yes, where they are intellectually incapable. When the like of Hon. Otito was there, you could see what a house should be. A progressive house was on board but now that we have a Labour Party dominated house, they have only consolidated the bad governance of Dr. Mimiko. All that is happening in the house of Assembly is not accepted by the Ondo state people and in due time we will change the status quo.
BANKOLE BETIKU.

The present house of assembly is nothing good to write home about. They are not constituted in the best interest of the people of this state. They would have rendered an un-reparable havoc to the future of this state by the time their tenure is over. Notwithstanding, all hopes are not lost because in no distance time the equation will change and the state will be back to her tradition of good governance. I know that very soon the people of the state shall find out that the unhealthy alliance between the legislators and governor Mimiko is killing the system.

Ondo state is predominantly a civil service state. By implication the civil service and the teaching ser vice are the largest employer of labor in the state. Evidently, the present administration had refused to recruit into the civil and teaching service since its inception. It has not engaged in any industrialization drive that could alleviate the problem of unemployment in the state either. Kayode Mogbojuri of our current affairs desk spoke with some of the un-employed youths in Ondo state on the issue of unemployment and youth development.

MEGBONWON SOJI AUGUSTINE

I am a graduate of mathematics from the Federal University of Uyo. By God’s grace, I am also a certified information technology expert. Basically, I am an expert in data base. I am from Okitipupa Local Government Area in Ondo state. I have been in Akure for the past three years searching for a job. Because of lack of employment opportunities in the state civil service, I have ventured into the private sector. I had to put some ideas into practice which has taken me out of my discipline. Since the inception of the Mimiko-led administration, there has been no tangible job creation. Although there could be for school certificate holders but we need jobs for university graduates.
ADEYEMI ADEWOLE XCOBA

I graduated from the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko. I read Business Administration and Management. I served in Plateau state and I returned from service on February 26, 2009. I hail from Akure South Local Government Area. Since I returned from service, I have joined the league of unemployed youths. I have since then been submitting my CV and application letters to different places. But nothing is forthcoming. So, I am just trying to see what I can do to keep body and soul together.
My advice to the present government is that beautification of the state capital is not more important than creating jobs for the teaming unemployed youths. This is because the beautification does not add any value to the lives of the people of the state. Instead of beautification, places like Oluwa glass, ifon ceramic, and Ile-oluji cocoa industry should be re-awakened. The government should stop its propaganda and concentrate on job creation. My advice is that mmiko should stop planting flowers and do something more meaningful.
MODUPE MESHE

I am a graduate of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo. I studied the English language. The rate at which we produce graduates is higher than the rate at which they are employed. This is worrisome and it is a general phenomenon in our nation now. But we are waiting for that person that will make history by creating employment and relieve our society of tension. My advice to the government is that they should take the issue of employment more serious like never before.
CHRIS OWEIBOH

I’m from Irele Local Government Area. The rate of unemployment in ondo state is disturbing. It is not impressive at all. The youths are roaming about the streets while the government is busy looting the treasury of the state in billions. My advice to the state government led by Mimko is that it should just leave this state alone and leave because there is nothing good that can come from it.
LAWAL KOLADE PAFF

I’m a graduate of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko. I’m from Owo Local Government Area. Unemployment is an ugly menace in our society today. It is spreads everyday and the consequences on the polity of the nation are becoming terrible everyday. The major cause of unemployment can be traced to the fact that most of the resources that ought to have been used meaningfully by the various tiers of government have been embezzled. My advice to our government at all levels is to show more commitment to job creation. Because if the will is there, it is a minor case
SEGUN IWALOKUN

I’m Segun Iwalokun. I graduated from the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko. I’m from Ilaje Local Government Area. Unemployment problem can be blamed on our governments. Although some people do not rely on government jobs, but government has the responsibility of providing basic things that can encourage self reliance. I must also say that over politicization of issues has equally led to unemployment. Look at Olokola Free Trade Zone that can produce thousands of jobs but due to politics, it has been jettisoned. Look at OSUTECH, it has been abandoned. So unemployment is a function of the insincerity of government. So, I want to advise our government at all levels to be sincere the people of the state

TUNJI ABAYOMI.....Our position on good governance is what I still stand upon. Regardless of any body in the helm of affairs, we must ensure that every government is held to appropriate standard in terms of development, rule of law and appropriate disclosure and accountability in terms of regard for the views of citizens of this state. We are not satisfied with the present government. It is not a matter of personal confrontation. Mimiko is a nice person in terms of his personality but in terms of public issues, he has disappointed a lot of our expectations. He has failed the people of Ondo state. That is why we are maintaining this position against his administration.

OBAYEMI WILLIAMS......Mimiko is confused. He is taking too many projects at the same time. It would have been better if these things are done stage by stage. For example, the works at Arakale is supposed to be finished and commissioned before that of Oba - Adesida is awarded. When all these are going on, the government awarded another called beautification as part of the same projects. It is sad to know that the same company, FCC, is handling all the projects. One is now forced to wonder if FCC is the only company in Nigeria. During Adefarati administration, over two hundred contractors were invited to the state.  With these multiple projects given to FCC, it seems he has imprisoned Ondo state. I hereby want to advise the government to finish one project before jumping to another and ensure that there is effective monitoring of all these projects.

VICTOR NIYI JAYEOLA......The way the government of this state is handling projects, I think they are biting more than what they can chew. There are many roads they are doing now like Arakale, Oba-adesida, Airport road via Oba-Ile, Ondo and Owo dualization etc. I think they are just playing to the gallery. All they want is to collect ten percent on this projects or contracts. Funny enough, the governor cannot finish these projects before the expiration of his tenure.

OLORUNNIBE FARUKANMI......There are a lot of markets built around which are supposed to be built by local governments but said to have been built by Mimiko. There are lots of patch patch works going on here and there. Some two or three bedroom flat bungalows that are built around called hospitals without doctors and drugs and he has neglected most important aspect of development like roads linking one town to the other. Most street are in shambles. No employment, no serious attention to agricultural sector. With these my comments, the governor should sit down with his advisers and appraise where they are because we are facing a lot of problems. No industry, no employment opportunities for our children; the roads are bad and neglected. The infrastructural provisions are at zero level. As far as I’m concerned, the government must sit tight and do something better.

EKUNDAYO AFOSE......This governor has many irons in the fire. All these projects should have been done sequentially, I mean, one after the other. But now there are many unfinished projects which he might not be able to finish. And my advice is that he should finish one project before he goes to the another.

NIMBE AMETO......I have mentioned it several times that Mimiko will not perform because Labour Party (LP) is not a party in the real sense of it. It is just a movement. Mimiko in the Labour Party is like a woman in a labour room, labouring and cannot deliver anything. Nothing is happening in the state. Not even a single kilometre of road has been tarred and commissioned to the credit of this administration.
