The major headache of the governor of Ondo state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, is not how to resolve the lingering industrial action in the state but how to contain the onslaught of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
The governor, who has been going through a lot of heat in recent times, is reportedly eying a second tenure in office and ready to put down any obstacle before him.
Findings revealed that on his way from London last week, where he had gone to attend the matriculation of his child and lobbied for an award from a phony organization, Mimiko held a crucial meeting with Senator Ajayi Borofice and Saka Lawal, his Special Adviser on Special Interest, where he revealed to them one of his moves against the ACN.
An impeccable source at the meeting told The Rocket that Mimiko asked the two chieftains of the Labour Party (LP) to defect to the ACN to fight for the governorship ticket of the party with the aim of destabilizing it.
Mimiko was said to have anticipated the failure of his efforts to regain the confidence of the former governor of Lagos state and chieftain of the ACN, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and, therefore, was finding ways of incapacitating his party in the state.
It was learnt that the governor wants any of the two to secure the ticket of the CAN and contest to lose so that Mimiko will have an easy ride to his second term in office.
But Borofice reportedly expressed worry because of his membership of the Senate but he was reminded that the constitution of the country permits any member of the red chamber of the National Assembly to contest governorship election without resigning his membership of the Senate. |
