Nigerian students condemn the removal of fuel subsidy. |
The Nigerian students under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Students have joins million of Nigerians across the globe to protest the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.
This position was made known in the mass rally organized in Akure by the Nigeria Labour Congress and other trade unions.
According to the leadership of the Association represented by president of the students’ union Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko Mr. Ismaila Waliu popularly called Mandela, he stated that the Nigerian students strongly believe that genuine governance is measured by the socio economic life of the people. “Genuine governance is measured by the level of socio-political and economic advancement /development in the society with the ultimate benefit on average citizen not the hardship the government policies and programs is capable of inflicting on the masses through the executive rascality that is capable of throwing the whole state into economic austerity”, Waliu said.
The students mandated the government at all tiers to immediately and unconditionally return petrol price to N65.00 per liter, that the refineries must be made functional to its full capacity, that the federal government should accede to ASUU demands, take adequate measures on the insecurity of the nation, un-employment and adequate funding of education.
The students further stressed that removal of fuel subsidy will definitely lead to increment in payables in Nigeria tertiary institutions. “ With the foresight, on no ground will Nigerian students tolerate any policy that will lead to increment of payable fees on campus. The government and their respective agents are hereby warned not to ignite crisis through the tertiary institutions.” Ismaila concluded |
