A fraud of N118 million has been discovered in a department under the governor office.
The fraud which was perpetrated according to an undisclosed source was carried out through the department of intergovernmental affairs and multilateral relations were to the tune of one hundred and eighteen million naira N118M.
According to a staff in the office, the sum of N86, 700,000.00 was transferred by the unit from oceanic bank account number 0171301006469 in favor of United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Up till now, no account has been specified as the recipient of this huge amount of money and no voucher was raised in respect of the fund transfer.
, the sum of twenty-five million naira was transferred from the same account to union saving loans plc Akure branch. No explanation for this transaction was made available to the financial department of the unit only for the department to be briefed that the money has been spent with the balance of N4.1M.
The source also confirm that the sum of N226,000 was expended twice on advertising two outstanding projects of UNDP and was release twice vide the payment voucher 00511 and 00694.
Another source revealed that despite the persistent verbal request and letter with reference number AUD/MRU/11/01 to ascertain the projects by the department, the officials of the unit always dribble everybody while they claimed that the sum of N5.6M was expended on monitoring and training of pilots for these projects.“One continues to get worried about the ways funds do disappear in this department and only God can save us in this state from going bankrupt.” The source said. |
